A controlled burn got out of control in southwest Saline County on Thursday.
Undersheriff Melander says that at 3:58 pm, responders were sent to the 9500 block of S Foresee Rd on April 6. A 45-year-old in the area was burning grass, under a controlled burn. Everything was fine until the wind switched and blew embers on the barn, which subsequently caught fire. Water was at the ready, but the victim was unable to reach the top of the barn. Rural Fire District #6 and #2, and Marquette Fire Department were called in.
The barn was a total loss, with equipment and tools inside. A new truck was close to the barn and suffered fire damage. The fire spread to a stuble field, burning approximately 100 yards. Total loss is $15,000.
