SALINA, KS — On September 30, authorities launched an investigation into a possible school shooting threat involving two teenagers after a Snapchat post surfaced, alleging that a 15-year-old boy planned to attack South High School. The post, made by a 17-year-old male, included a picture of the younger teen with a gun, claiming that the threat had been made.
The 15-year-old denied making any such threat, explaining to authorities that the photo was taken four years ago and had no connection to the present situation. According to reports, the 17-year-old overheard the alleged threat while leaving the school's parking lot and posted the image as a warning.
Police quickly launched an investigation but found insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges. The 15-year-old’s parents cooperated with law enforcement, confirming that their son did not have access to firearms. While the threat could not be confirmed, authorities notified South High School, and extra officers were stationed at the campus the following morning as a precautionary measure.
Though the investigation did not disrupt school operations, authorities reiterated the importance of treating all potential threats seriously. Despite no classes being canceled, the situation underscores the heightened vigilance surrounding school safety in today's climate.
