Asbury Hospital's Evolution Through Time: From Modest Beginnings to Lasting Impact
A significant chapter in the city's healthcare history began with the establishment of Asbury Hospital, now Salina Regional Health Center. Originally located at the southwest intersection of Santa Fe and South, the hospital emerged within a converted residence. This makeshift setting was intended to be a temporary solution until the hospital could secure the necessary funding for a permanent facility.
When the hospital opened, they only had $27.80 in funds, a modest sum for a noble endeavor. In 1927, a brick structure was erected on South St. just west of the original hospital, positioned just west of the original abode-turned-hospital. This construction marked a significant stride toward permanence and sophistication. The photograph captured in this depiction showcases the juxtaposition of the hospital's original humble quarters with the newly added brick structure.
Remarkably, the addition that rose in 1927 still stands today, a testament to the enduring legacy of Asbury Hospital. Through decades of progress, growth, and technological advancements, this structure continues to serve as a vital hub for medical care in the community.
